الحب لا يضايق احداً. ابحث عن الحاضر التائه.

The philosophy of fasting calls upon us to know ourselves, to master ourselves, and to discipline ourselves the better to free ourselves. To fast is to identify our dependencies, and free ourselves from them.
We must master our egoism, and through this mastery, step outside ourselves and educate ourselves in giving. Fasting requires that we rediscover all that is alive around us, and reconcile ourselves with our environment.
Instead of looking outside of ourselves and counting potential enemies, fasting summons us to turn our glance inward, and to take the measure of our greatest challenge: the self, the ego, in our own eyes and as others see us.

‘I have been trying to photograph Gabriel Garcia Marquez for some years. Finally, I get a call from his son Rodrigo telling me Gabo has agreed and I fly out to LA two days later. Gabo, his two sons and I go into the front garden where I make some photographs of them together. The children hang out of the window and tease the men, I point my camera at them; they scream and jump back inside, the men laugh. Then I walk with Gabo and photograph him with the big black backcloth my grandmother stitched for me many years ago, black on one side, white on the other. I go close, in profile and straight on. He jokes about the lines on his face; I tell him he has earned them and he nods with a smile.’

Photographer Steve Pyke, a regular contributor to The New Yorker and Vanity Fair, has spent his career making portraits of ‘the famous, the infamous, the well to do and the dispossessed.’ His new book, Faces of Our Time, will tell some of his most memorable stories. Guy Laramée Carves a Majestic Mountainous Terrain from an Encyclopedia Britannica Set

Known for his stunning book sculptures, artist Guy Laramée’s installment of a carved  24-volume Encyclopedia Britannica set, called “Adieu,” proves to be his most ambitious and intricate work. Mimicking one of nature’s most complicated terrains, a mountain, Laramée drew inspiration from his travels to Ecuador, Peru and Brazil.

We don’t make a photograph just with a camera, we bring to the act of photography all the books we have read, the movies we have seen, the music we have heard, the people we have loved.

Think about yourself and say: I wish I were a candle lit in the dark.

Two roads diverged in a wood, and I —
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

One of the most amazing things that can happen is finding someone who sees everything you are and won’t let you be anything less. They see the potential of you. They see endless possibilities. And through their eyes, you start to see yourself the same way as someone who matters. As someone who can make a difference in the world. If you’re lucky enough to find this person, never let them go.
